Hi Eric,
I've owned a 30 Mk II for the last 14 years, PHRF in my area is 156
with the wing keel. I raced with it fairly successfully, my #1 is a 140 good
till about 12 knots true. My #2 is a 125 good till about 16 knots true. I've
sailed side by side with a friend that owns a fin keeled 30 Mk II, he out
points me by a few degrees, boat speeds were just about the same on all points
of sail. When he sailed on my boat he found it to be stiffer than his as the
wing keel is 500 lbs heavier than the fin.

Subject: Stus-List 30 Mk II

Hello,

A friend of mine is looking to replace his (also my old boat) beloved Catalina
30 that was lost in Sandy.

He is looking at a 30 Mk 2 with a wing keel. I went with him to look at the
boat this weekend. The boat looks and sounds solid.

A few questions:

How are the sailing characteristics with the wing vs. fin keel?

As the boat will need sails what would be the best minimal inventory for beer
can racing (thinking #1 GP and #3)

Anything particular on these boats to look at?

Thanks,

Eric
