I have been back there a couple of times, no easy fit for me and in my last
post I called the adjustments “turn buckles” which are at the very back.
You will need to hold one end from moving and adjust the other and you need
to adjust each side to keep your wheel centered if it is now, or you can
adjust either side to give you a centered wheel. It helps to have some one
up top who can turn the wheel after each adjustment because it is no
pleasure getting into and out of that spot(at least for me). And it helps
to have a light. Where did C&C ever find all these small guys to get into
the spaces they created on our boats…like the hull valves are another real
chore to get at also. I went in from port side locker after removing the
bilge pump and I also cut a half moon shaped piece out of the ¾ inch thick
fiberglass frame you have to get by…I just would not fit unless I did that,
200 pounds, 48 chest too tight. Besides that frame is way over done, at
about 6 inches high so I cut it back to 3 inches high with a key hole saw.
It has in no way may my boat structurally unsound. And I used cushions so
that my body did not get torn to bits by the remaing section of frame that
it had to lie on.

I have a friend who has a 35 MKII and on his boat the back section of the
fiberglass cockpit is cut out up to about knee height and replace by a water
tight removal hatch…that gives better access to everything that has to be
done back there and you can also make it useful for storage for things like
extra life jackets.

Subject: Stus-List Adjusting wire tension in Edson steering systems

Inspecting and lubricating the cables below the cockpit on my Edson steering
system (radial quadrant on the rudder post located aft of the pedestal), the
cables appear to be rather loose. Where do I take up the tension in this
wire? Can it be done from the top of the pedestal with the compass removed,
or do I need to adjust the wires directly, groping around under the cockpit
from the port cockpit locker? The Edson EB381Steering Guide describes the
installation and says to adjust the tension, but doesn't appear to say how
this is done.
