I did a barrier coat on my San Juan 28 with 2000E. As I recall the directions
called for 5 coats, so that's what she got, so 5 kits. I rolled it on and it
was smooth enough, I believe we tipped it as well.

Edd,?

I had Touche' barrier coated....twice. ?The first time an idiot did it and
rolled it on. ?The second time a guy who specialized in bottoms (boat bottoms,
that is) did it and he sprayed it on. ?My vote goes to spraying it on. ?

I2000E is a very good product.

Hello Edd,

May of 2011, here along the Texas Gulf Coast.... I too had Finesse , a LF39,
soda blasted and on the recommendation of the boat yard:

1. Used the Interlux primer-cleaner

2. Applied 2 full coats of the 2000E and a 3rd coat over the keel and up the
hull about 1/2 way using a roller. I slightly thined the 2000E again on the
recommendaion of the yard and because the heat was affecting the workability.
Just make sure you get the correct mil thickness. Alternating the gray and
white is a good idea....wish I had

3. Then applied 3 coats of Pettit Pro....so far...no problems...

Hope that helps,

Lloyd Lippe

  Listers,

I'm getting the hull of the Enterprise soda blasted this year and the plan is
to do the barrier coating myself afterwards. So, a few questions:

  1. I've heard Interprotect is a good product. Anyone have any
recommendations? How many gallons for a 37+'s hull?
  2. How many coats should I put on? I like the idea of alternating gray and
white.
  3. What is a good way to get it all on? What is the best painting materials?
Please note: I'm not looking for the ultimate super smooth bottom. I'd rather
not spend days wetsanding this hull.
  4. Any other tips or suggestions?

The Enterprise launches in 17 weeks.

  All the best,

  Edd

I applied barrier coat on former 35-1 about 6 years ago. There are good PDF
documents on line from the manufacturer that were clear and accurate judging
from the results over time. I believe 4 coats are recommended with the first
coat of ablative solvent based applied when the last coat was still tacky. I
followed the directions and the hull still looked great when I sold her last
spring. I am doing my hull this winter too which is about same area as yours
and I am budgeting 1500-2000 for barrier and bottom paint. Call or email
john.mat...@yale.edu if you can not find the PDF. I believe I still have them
on my PCM
