Al,
For small repairs, buying a gallon of gelcoat may not be practical but here's
what I'd do if that's the route you want to go. First, go to
<http://www.fibreglast.com/category/colorgelcoat> and rent one of their color
books (Instint or RAL). Compare the color book to ALL the areas you want to
repair. Why? Your boat may be different colors, depending on prolonged
exsposure to the sun on one area and not in another. You can then order a
gallon of tinted gelcoat to match the color book hue you choose. It's about
$100/gallon.
If you want to tint your own, buy a quart and some jars (not tubes) of brown,
yellow and black tint. Pour a portion of the gelcoat into a Mason jar and use
a toothpick to transfer tint until you are close. You want the gelcoat to be a
wee bit darker than the boat because it will cure lighter than when first
applied.
For small nicks, I use gelpaste from Spectrum Color. Unfortunately, other than
finding what newer boat OEM color matches, you won't know which gelpaste to
order. You could get color samples from a paint store, match your boat then
wander around marinas trying to find a SeaRay, Hunter, Catalina, etc. color
that matches.
For instance, the deck on my 35-1 is very close to Sherwin-Williams Toque
White. It would be nice if Spectrum Color would match that but they won't. :(
Good luck.
