You have a very stiff boat, lucky guy.you can carry that 160 upwind where
most other boats might want much less, that is provided the cloth is good,
like I think 8 oz would do the trick fine but it may be a light air sail and
my feeling is that it would still be worth the penalty on your boat but I
don't know the predominant conditions that the PO had to use it in.if 8 oz
you could probably carry it to about 20 apparent and then downwind after
rounding it would be real good, even if you only used it until the spinnaker
was driving the boat.even use it with the spinnaker like a blooper if you
want some real activity

When I bought my 30-1, I found a few 160s (165?) on board. The PO
apparently thought it was worth the 3sec/mi penalty to fly the bigger jib.

I remember when I had my SJ 24, many took the hit and flew 170s because the
swept back spreaders wouldn't allow the 155 to sheet as close as the 170.

Can't figure out the reasoning for the 160 on my C&C.

Would love to hear what Cutter did.

Jim,

You might want to contact Greg Cutter. He raced a 30-2 on the Chesapeake.
He may still be monitoring this list. If not, I can provide his email
off-list.

Bob,

It's a fair question, I will have to look at the Lake Michigan PHRF cutoffs,
thanks. In a general sense, we are wondering what fits the 30-2, and would
love to find any other owners who race. The previous owner of our boat
never flew anything bigger than a 135 because thought that the boat did not
handle well with anything bigger. Then again with a roller furling, it
seems like bigger is better, at least to 155%, you can always reef.

Jim
