Yeah, you can certainly get a workout if you want to see the whole island by bike.
One of the nice things about Martha's Vineyard though is that the buses have bike racks so you can ride until you're tired and then catch a bus to get you back to the boat. Last year we rode from VH, to South Beach, back to Edgartown, and then back to VH. It was a great ride, but some of the smaller legs (my girls were 10 years old) took the bus back from Edgartown . The previous year, with 9 year olds, we covered slightly less ground, but could still ride from Edgartown to the beach and back. Overall, it's a fun place to hang out - whether you're on a hook or ball, bike or bus.
