I have 120' of chain and wish I had more, largely because I don't have an elegant way to switch from chain to rode on my windlass. When I come into a deep anchorage I'll circle around for ages to try to find a spot with less than 30' depth so I can anchor with chain only. I had to anchor in 70' in the BVI's last Christmas and I hated paying out so much rode.
(The mathematicians are now calculating the scope I use and are appalled that I'm not using anywhere near the 10:1 recommended in some places. Yeah, well, that's a debate for a different thread) Cheers Colin On 8/28/12, Joel Aronson <joel.aron...@gmail.com> wrote: > 90 feet of chain? 90% of the Chesapeake isn't that deep. > > Joel Aronson > > > On Aug 28, 2012, at 8:34 PM, "djhaug...@juno.com" <djhaug...@juno.com> > wrote: > >> 65 lbs??!! deeeuuummmnnnn...thats a heavy anchor! >> >> Can yoiu pull that up by hand. >> >> Is it possible to use float and ring to pull up your anchor on a sailboat, >> or do you need more speed for that to work? >> >> Danny >> >> ---------- Original Message ---------- >> From: Martin DeYoung <mdeyo...@deyoungmfg.com> >> To: "cnc-list@cnc-list.com" <cnc-list@cnc-list.com> >> Subject: Re: Stus-List Martha's Vineyard Cruise next week >> Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2012 00:28:31 +0000 >> >> On of the better books about anchors and anchoring is written by Earl >> Hinz; "The Complete Book of Anchoring and Mooring".
