Hi Joe, You might want to look at the new AMD Ryzen processors. They have a very good price/performance ratio, and MemEx has a number of reasonably-priced motherboards for them.
You should also consider using a discrete graphics card. They can be had for about $50 and will easily exceed the performance of onboard graphics. Lastly, if you're going to using Linux, think about whether or not you want to use proprietary drivers. This might affect your choice of graphics card. Intel onboard graphics typically has good open-source drivers. Hope this helps, —Neil
