If you have a spare USB port you could try something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/TP-Link-TL-WN725N-Wireless-Adapter-Miniature/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1482823929&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+network
or this if you are a little further away from the router: https://www.amazon.ca/300Mbps-Wireless-Adapter-External-Antennas/dp/B00I0KEJYU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1482824540&sr=8-4&keywords=usb+bolse ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ralph Boland" <rpbol...@gmail.com> To: clug-talk@clug.ca Sent: Monday, December 26, 2016 11:16:28 PM Subject: [clug-talk] problems connecting my computer to a router I have to connect my computer to the SHAW modem/router by cable rather than wirelessly because of problems with my nearly 7 year old computer. I get a message "cannot awaken MAC chip. I assume that this is a hardware problem that I consider not worth trying to fix. Unfortunately I am moving and once moved I will only be able to connect to the modem/router wirelessly. I have an old linksys wrt54 router but as far as I can tell I cannot use it by connecting it to my computer by cable and to the modem/router wirelessly. Is there something that I can buy that I can connect to by cable that I can then connect to the modem/router wirelessly? I'm guessing some routers allow this and a router would be cheaper than a new computer. Of course my other option is to buy a new computer but I am trying to avoid that.
