I'm not sure you'd have to get access to the "root" of the file system. My Nexus 7 does an MTS mount that is just another device. The DCIM directory is under that mount point. So in theory you should be able to undelete the folder once you have the mount.

Then again, it's late and I'm speculating. I'll grab my Nexus sometime tomorrow and try this out (I may be thinking about my Android phone too....)
