Don't know whether this has already been mentioned... but here's very interesting article wrt liability to life through crappy software. http://www.edn.com/design/automotive/4423428/Toyota-s-killer-firmware--Bad-design-and-its-consequences Barr's ultimate conclusions were that: Toyotas electronic throttle control system (ETCS) source code is of unreasonable quality. Toyotas source code is defective and contains bugs, including bugs that can cause unintended acceleration (UA). Code-quality metrics predict presence of additional bugs. Toyotas fail safes are defective and inadequate (referring to them as a house of cards safety architecture). Misbehaviors of Toyotas ETCS are a cause of UA. If youre really geeky you can read the court transcripts . http://www.safetyresearch.net/Library/Bookout_v_Toyota_Barr_REDACTED.pdf Simon _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list clug-talk@clug.ca http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
