I too am unable to make it to tonights meeting. I am also not in a
position to take a leadership role for the foreseeable future.

Some thoughts on the current state and direction of CLUG.

There are pockets of Linux users in Calgary that seem to be disconnected.
I wonder if there is not some way to pool their efforts (Protospace and
CUUG are two other places with Linux users that I know of)? There is also
a burgeoning startup community in Calgary. Presumably there could be
opportunities in that community.

Personally I like meetings that are either presentation based (like Theo de
Raadt's YYCIX CUUG presentation) or workshop based (where someone familiar
with a technology demonstrates it, even better if we can follow along).
The idea is that there is something specific drawing people in.

A few years ago CLUG did the occasional afternoon event, that ranged from
installfests to going deep on a particular technology (I still fondly
recall the day spent with Apache nearly 10 years ago).

The COSSFESTs were an awesome experience but were an awful lot of work. To
resurrect this will require a number of dedicated people, and at least one
dynamo of a leader (hats off to Shawn everyone).
