Hi folks,

I have a conflict so will be unable to attend today.

I think CLUG is an useful forum at times but we seem to be drifting aimlessly
these days. Maybe it is time to try something different. Some ideas:
-quarterly meetings with topics announced well in advance (6-12 months). Maybe
have a recurring set of topics (Linux
distros-hardware-appliances/Multimedia-entertainment/Business apps/Gaming )
with a very interested leader in each topic responsible for setting up a once a
year session.
-Go virtual (not sure what is involved here but seems like we should be able to
leverage some kind of collaboration tools, and have virtual meeting with audio
and video, recorded for posterity or at least a quarter or 2)
-See what other active LUGs are doing and maybe emulate - this one seems to be
still active http://www.svlug.org/
-Get more vendor involvement (RedHat, Novell, Oracle/Sun/MySQL, Canonical, IBM,
Google/Android/ChromeOS, etc). We probably need to have more active members
before they would find that worthwhile. They could also help promote the group
but the focus would probably have to change from hobbyist to business for them
to do that.

As usual talk is cheap and action is all that really counts. I cannot commit to
take a leading role in CLUG so I am all talk right now. I will stay involved
and attend interesting sessions if the group continues, and help out where I
can.

I have been involved with a few groups that have folded over the years (anyone
remember Osborne or Commodore Amiga? :>) . In those cases the platform went
away, but Linux has never been more successful in the marketplace so I think
there is a high probability that the right people could make a local user group
very successful.

My $0.05 (since we don't have pennies anymore).

Have a good meeting and I'll try to catch up with you at Brewsters afterwards
if time permits.

Regards,
Greg

Subject: [clug-talk] CLUG Meeting this afternoon (today)

Meeting at 6:00
clug.ca

What todays society wants is remarkable. Worth making a remark about.

Is CLUG up to remarkable? There are at least two views or ways of
approaching this. One is more human than the other.

See you at the meeting.
