Youtube is one of the largest catalysts for both IPv6 and html5 (aka no
flash) in the online media world. I know that they are part of the big bad
Google Empire, but they were the only ones truly fighting the evil of
MPEG-4.

The short short version is that Youtube is one of the only video sites
where you do not need flash, most of the time. Use the following URL to
set your preference:
http://www.youtube.com/html5?gl=CA

I should also note that Google properties are pretty much the only
commercial site that I can connect to via IPv6. Without Youtube my IPv6
traffic graphs would be extremely boring.

Do not mistake the above for rabid fanboism, I am very concerned about the
concentration of knowledge (and thus power) into the hands of a few.

Editing the video into sections is pretty easy. There are a lot of open
choices here. My understanding is that two of the best are kdenlive and
openshot. For more options check out this list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_editing_software#Free_and_open-source

I am sure that someone on the CUUG or CLUG mailing lists would be able to
do the actual editing if required.

There is also a rudimentary editor built into Youtube.

Finally, I think that this sort of thing should be streamable. If you want
to make a statement by not using Youtube, there are a few options.

First, archive.org would be a great choice, especially given their stance
on Creative Commons. A natural fit really. We would just have to edit the
talk before uploading (well, technically we would not *have* to, but I am
sure that the potential viewers would appreciate this.

You can host the video files on the CLUG/CUUG websites or ask members to
donate the server space and bandwidth. I imagine that there are a few of
us members with dedicated servers and or VPSs.
