Git Annex Brancheable allows you to do a private drop box like setup.
http://git-annex.branchable.com/

You create a local GIT repository (via the easy (local) web interface), then link that repository to other repo's - new or existing. The remote repos can be GIT based, or rsync'd. Now, anytime you drop a file in your local repository's directory, it is auto-magically sync'ed to the remote repositories, and revision controlled.

For some, this may be enough of a "home cloud" setup.
