Hi All,
Who in CLUG is interested in this international project?
I was contacted by Jacob Quinlan
Communications Advisor
Student and Enrolment Services
University of Calgary
in regards to an Open Source CFD project related to River Wave Design
and the Alberta River Surfing Association
I did not realize the project is under construction so soon.
It would be best if any of those interested meet/talk at an earlier
date.
I installed 'code-saturne' - General purpose Computational Fluid
Dynamics (CFD) software on my workstation today, but have not fully
tried it out yet. Is this the program you were referring to?
If so it appears easy to install.
Who in CLUG is interested in this international project?
Mel

Hi Mel,
Thank you so much for your quick reply! I would love to come out to the
group meeting on the 4th and offer any more information required and chat
in person with the club!
I didn't mention in my email but we are on a bit of a time crunch. If you
truly think there is interest to help within your group, I'm wondering if
it is a good idea to forward my email. We have a permitted construction
time of September 3-15 in the Kananaskis this year so if anyone is keen on
the project and wants to get started right away, their help could
drastically improve the success of this project and the success of other
projects like it around the world.
With that said, I didn't know CFD software existed before talking to Alex
last week and we can certainly move forward without it if we cannot find
someone willing to help this week or next. The Surf Anywhere project is
ongoing and will be looking to run CFD simulations in the short and long
term. It is one thing to show people how the wave design worked in our
river but much more revolutionary if we can empower others to see how a
design like this could work in their river. If CFD software helps us do
that, then it's an incredibly exciting project!!!
Let me know if you think anyone is keen in the immediate future, otherwise
let's touch base shortly before the event. If there's anything you would
like me to prepare or provide ahead of time I would be happy to do so :)
Have a great day!!
Jacob
