See here for details on the incompatibility: http://zfsonlinux.org/faq.html#WhatAboutTheLicensingIssue I do not consider FUSE or relying on a Ubuntu PPA to be a solution. The performance penalty you pay with FUSE pretty much negates any advantage any file system may have (except of course sshfs and other slow WAN FUSE based file systems). The third option of building it myself is no longer viable. I am not a fan of either the CDDL or the BSD licence. It does not matter if you agree with him or not, but he (Linus) has very good reasons for the opinions he holds. ZFS seems interesting it is just that I have not been all that willing to invest time in something that has no chance (under it's current licence) of being included in the stock Linux kernel.
