I like ext3/4 on top of LVM because I know it is very stable. I think I will try ZFS on one server and stick with ext4 on LVM for the other. I know that ext4 on LVM is fast enough to do what I need and the servers are identical so I will be able to see how fast ZFS is.
The problem with why ZFS is not in the Linux kernel is because the license is BSD so it will never be in the official Linux kernel. And as much as it make Linus mad that third party vendors are able to make non-GPL modules for the kernel, there is nothing he can do to stop it and some distro's have packages for ZFS. I am going to try this on one server and see if I like it. Switching back is easy if it is no good.
