I've a general question on whether anyone has recommendations on 'smart' UPS'es for backing up NAS/Network infrastructure.
My situation is different from most in that I power down stuff most of the time, but I would like to implement a system were a NAS was cleanly shutdown before the power is yanked. More specifically I would like to use a UPS so that the power could be yanked and the drive still had juice to shut down cleanly. The reason for powering down is that even a small load adds up over time when you are off grid. We currently consume approximately 5KW.Hr per day, a 'small' 20W load for 24Hr would add an additional 10% load (0.5 KW.Hr). Also any comments about spinning up drives and wear...?
