My 2 cents: the innovation is nice, but how about tightening up the works? There is still no shortage of bugs and UI fixes that could be done that would lead to a fantastic experience. Shuttleworth has the right idea with "One Hundred Paper Cuts," and I think just creating a UI that does what one expects it to would be more than enough to win over the 'unwashed masses'.

It's an interesting read, and has a wide range of comments as well.
