Ok I know I am being lazy here, but in production environments I really need to be fast and efficient and get things up and running. Here is my dilema. I have been running various systems with Redhat, Suse and CentOs for years and have been relying on rpm updates for most applications. However, I now have the need for things like PHP5 (no rpms available) and Mysql 5x. The mysql5 upgrades are not such a big deal as rpms are available and have already upgraded a couple systems. However, I also need PHP 5 now and the one time I tried installing PHP from source I gave up after failing to get all modules compiled properly and figruing out how to load/use the new version compiled from scratch. So now I am looking at the XAMPP bundles but am wondering if there are any guides for switching over to XAMMP installed bundles on a system where apache, php, mysql etc are already installed from RPM.
