These companies see little reason to change as their clients will get the appropriate computer necessary to get their software and hardware running.
Personally, I want to test software that uses the legacy RS232 communication under Vmware and it needs to map the virtual port to a real port to talk to the outside world. Secondly, I have a portable storage oscilliscope that uses the serial port to transmit the information to be displayed on the computer screen. Though the software is in windows, I would like to run it in a virtualization or wine. And lastly, it only costs the computer manufacturer $2 to implement a serial port, but it will cost me a bunch of time and money to regain that functionality. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
