I'm curious, have you tried this recently?  I'm pretty sure the FTDI
USB->RS232 chips have been able to do this for a few years now.  I
haven't tried it myself, but I was quite well aquainted with the
FT2232C datasheet at one point, and it seemed to be more than capable
of this.  I only ever used the chip in it's RS485, SPI, and parallel
modes though.
