vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf
It should be obvious what to do, but here is an example from my laptop:

SubSection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "800x600"
    EndSubSection

If you are using the regular vesa driver, I do not believe that it
supports "weird" resolutions. Almost all of the other drivers (the
intel ones, nvidia, ati etc.) should support this resolution.

I also use klaptop to display the battery charge and to suspend the machine.
