I would suggest that instead of reinstalling OO, that you first
uninstall it and "completely remove it" not simply remove. I believe
this is the equivalent to the old "purge" which will also get rid of any
configuration files which may be the cause of your problems.
Then, reinstall the software and dependances. Hope this works for you.
