I just spoke with the City of Calgary Recreation department (the folks to talk
to about booking school gyms and such). To use a gym at someplace like
Western Highschool will cost ~$114/hour, while a smaller facility would be
~$90/hour. So, we would be looking at a cost of approximately $800 - $1200
for a day. That cost would drain the funds we have available at this time.
So, we're looking for an alternative still. :)

I've been following the thread, and have noted the comments about a big event
and/or soliciting donations/support from our sponsors for such an event. I
like the idea, but not for an Installfest. It has been suggested (via
conversation and the member survey) that we hold an Open House. I think this
would be a better type of "big event" - maybe with an outdoor theme?
(hmmmmm... beer garden.......... :) ).

On the otherhand, we do need to do a better job of promoting the Installfests.
The purpose of an Installfest (in my opinion) is to help the community/public
install Linux and provide a forum for questions/answers. However, the past
few Installfests have mostly been attended by existing CLUG members. One
would think that an existing member already has some familiarity with Linux.
I'm not saying these members shouldn't be attending, but that we need to
expand the target audience for an Installfest. This is an issue that will
require some thought on how to address it properly.

My thoughts....

Shawn
