I never heard of clamav, will check it out. Would it run on a IPCOP? Currently I am debatting between a mini *BSD or IPCOP
I was looking at Fetchmail, but that means that I need a qmail/postfix or alike no? The users than connect to the firewall to get there mail not to shaw/telus/ISP server. What I am hoping to find (if technically possible) is something that checks content on the pop3/110 port when it flies by... (eventually pop/pop2/imap etc as well).
Any ideas for web content filtering?

Yes, you can pull the mail from the pop server using Fetchmail and deliver it to local mail boxes on the firewall box or a mailserver behind the firewall. The mail as it's being delivered to these mail boxes can be scanned for spam and viruses by using procmail. Then you have the users behind the firewall download their mail using pop and/or give them webmail access to the mail on the firewall.Can I get spamassassin between a pop server and a m$ outlook pop client?
I know it is NOT a good thing to have other apps running on your firewall but multiple boxes is not a good thing for my wallet :-S
Since you are downloading email to the firewall, you don't need to open up new external ports. As such you are not adding any more potential external exploits.
