Is your reasoning for this due to how you query Jira? I ask, because I think your suggestion conflicts with the intended goal here: that the sub-tasks are the actual work (dev, doc, QA), and that the parent "new feature" or "improvement" jira records are resolved once all sub-tasks are resolved.
