Rohit, thanks for this. I'm going to play with your system vm template to see if we can support KVM virtio communication rather than ssh to KVM system vms. One thing I thought I'd mention was that it might be better to compress the qcow2 image natively (via qemu-img convert -c flag) rather than bz2, because it is usable as compressed, which will speed deployment of the base system vm image, and people won't have to unzip.
