This is another approach I have used:

1) export MAVEN_OPTS="-Xmx1024m -Xdebug
-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=n"
2) mvn -pl :cloud-client-ui jetty:run   (starting ms)
3) then in eclipse, set up remote java application to attach at port 8787.
