Pico-Lisp looks pretty cool, and that massive book of yours is nuts. It seems like there is an example for everything in there! About the poor reception in spite of Rosetta-Code success, I can only say that predicting human behavior on the assumption that their decisions are rational, is unlikely to ever succeed. We are socially minded, always looking for what's popular :)
