+1 to lowering the barrier to entry for contributing to the community. One of the much lauded features of Git is that it can be used to create a "network of trust". In principle this means you can open your repo up to anyone, but by being choosy about the pull requests you accept you can control what's going to get in.
This is perfect for something like documentation. Also, as it's been said before, a pen and paper CA is a pain.
