This is good advice regardless of which alternative JVM language one chooses. Just cracking the covers on the Java runtime documentation will make your hair stand on end, and that should be postponed until you absolutely, positively, gotta have something from "the bin." (I exaggerate, but I can see nodding heads as I type this.)
