I agree that Common Lisp is big and it might take some time to learn. But it is not a waste of time either. It is an interesting language, and it is interesting to see the points of divergence with Clojure and understand them.
However, it might not be the fastest path to Clojure. There are good books on Clojure. On the other hand, if the book on Common Lisp looks fascinating to you, don't refrain yourself.
