to achieve something a bit "thicker" that could insulate the user from
Java classes completely. The user wouldn't even have to know Swing or
handle JObjects or worry about the event thread... In other words, it
wouldn't be a wrapper API for Swing, but a Clojure GUI api that,
coincidentally, is /backed/ by Swing.

Sounds like a good idea. Swing is great but to be useful needs some
higher level layer anyway. I'm doing something like you probaly have in
mind for JRuby. A high level GUI framework that supports (in theory)
different frameworks. Right now it works with swing and SWT. Maybe we
could share some ideas ?
