I just don't understand why itool found the current version to be 1.0.2 when
I'm at 1.0.5? The libbz2.1.0dylib alias points to libbz2.1.0.5dylib, as it
should.

What do you get when you use otool -l on /usr/bin/bzip2? I get:
Load command 10
cmd LC_LOAD_DYLIB
cmdsize 52
name /usr/lib/libbz2.1.0.dylib (offset 24)
time stamp 2 Wed Dec 31 16:00:02 1969
current version 1.0.5
compatibility version 1.0.0
This is Snow Leopard 10.6.4. Files are:
bash-3.2$ ls -l *bz2*
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 16 Mar 29 2010 libbz2.1.0.5.dylib ->
libbz2.1.0.dylib
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 216704 Feb 10 2010 libbz2.1.0.dylib
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 16 Mar 29 2010 libbz2.dylib -> libbz2.1.0.dylib
