You're right; I used clamscan and not clamdscan. The latter
cannot be used in this instance, because clamd does not have
sufficient privileges to read the files from within a user
account (even if run as root), whereas clamscan can be run
directly as the user.

Options in your clamd.conf file affect how clamdscan works. You need to test with clamdscan, and then adjust clamd.conf options if you don't like what it's doing.
