I've never said that the easy way is the best way. In fact I regularly berate people for trying to convince me of this. I used to teach that it was find to use shortcuts once you'd done it the hard way and understood what that button actually does. Look at the webmin project for example, or puppet, rrd... none of these are hard to use, and automate tedious admin stuff by telling me that there's something wrong.
