I'll admit I'm not too smart when it comes to how much memory an app is
supposed to use but it seems to me that since I installed .96 on my
Mandriva 2010 system it's using an excessive amount.

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 834 clamav 20 0 375m 344m 5420 S 0.0 45.6 0:25.13 clamd

or am I incorrect in my assumption? If not what settings can I change to
limit the amount of memory being used?

The question is how much memory does it use on avg? Also, what OS are
you using?

Mandriva 2010 Linux

If it is actively scanning something then..... that still seems
excessive but...... how much memory do you have in the system?

Mem: 773232k total, 760964k used, 12268k free, 17156k buffers Swap: 1076312k total, 418044k used, 658268k free, 134416k cached

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+
COMMAND
 834 clamav 20 0 375m 234m 844 S 0.0 31.0 2:49.72 clamd

Here is my usage:
PID PPID RSS VSZ %CPU %MEM CMD
3264 1 93768 116336 0.0 6.0
/usr/local/sbin/clamd

Clam is only running on a desktop, no mail server at all.

Yeah, that is too much if it is not scanning AND it does not appear to be since CPU usage is zero.

If you stop clamd and restart, does the percentage change?

I will take a more in-depth look at home and see what I find.

Thanks, Jim
