Probably silly questions, but trying to get an idea of what goes on
under the hood:

1.What is the difference between cvd-v-cld?

I can find cld:
/var/lib/clamav/
-rw-r--r-- 1 clamav clamav 6.8M 2009-11-29 03:02 daily.cld
-rw-r--r-- 1 clamav clamav 45M 2009-06-19 09:21 main.cld
-rw------- 1 clamav clamav 260 2009-11-29 09:08 mirrors.dat

And cvd - but these are notably older.
/usr/local/share/clamav/
-rw-rw-r-- 1 clamav clamav 717K 2009-07-06 10:09 daily.cvd
-rw-rw-r-- 1 clamav clamav 21M 2009-07-06 10:09 main.cvd

2. If the .cvd's are still used, does clam unpack them and put them
elsewhere - or does it extract them on start up?

3. If I create my own sigs (.ndb etc)
a. Where would I put them? {can I define a custom directory that clam
will look in?}
b. Do I need to restart clamd for them to be picked up?

I can find some fantastic documentation on creating signatures, but I'm
stuck on these core concepts and could use a little help - even if it
comes in the shape of R{link}TFM. :-)
