Hi giggz,
There are several things you may want to try.
If you are on a SMP the multiscan option in clamd/clamdscan is probably
what you need.
As for the privileges go, if your clamd is running on the local host and
is accessible via unix socket, you can try passing -fdpass to clamdscan.

This would work too, however you need to make sure that clamd can access
the database and the log files (if any).
