Julian,

I am testing clamcour 0.3.7 with clamav 0.90rc2 and courier 53.2.  It
ran for a while then I received a similar message.  Restarting courier
would get it going again, then the same thing.

I looked around at my filter setup and discovered that
/usr/lib/courier/etc/filters/active contained an incredibly old copy of
clamcour, rather than the softlink it was supposed to.  Stopping
courier, running filterctl stop clamcour, then filterctl start clamcour,
and restarting courier seems to have solved the problem.

The same solution may help original poster.
