I posted a question on this a few days ago and didn't get an answer. Some more info. I've got clamav-0.88.4 on gentoo kernel 2.6.16. Taken from my syslog:
Aug 21 21:36:18 mypc freshclam[7236]: ERROR: Mirrors are not fully synchronized. Please try again later. Aug 21 21:36:18 mypc freshclam[7236]: Giving up on database.clamav.net... Aug 21 21:36:18 mypc freshclam[7236]: ERROR: Update failed. Your network may be down or none of the mirrors listed in freshclam.conf is working. Another server (debian sarge) using another ISP, using the same mirror, updates perfectly well. Networking on the gentoo machine works fine EXCEPT pings won't work - apparently blocked by ISP. eg. # ping db.au.clamav.net PING db.au.clamav.net (203.28.142.36) 56(84) bytes of data. --- db.au.clamav.net ping statistics --- 12 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 11010ms and # ping database.clamav.net PING db.au.clamav.net (203.28.142.36) 56(84) bytes of data. --- db.au.clamav.net ping statistics --- 8 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 7009ms Also: # traceroute database.clamav.net traceroute: Warning: database.clamav.net has multiple addresses; using 203.16.234.78 traceroute to eeyore.planetmirror.com (203.16.234.78), 30 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 192.168.2.1 (192.168.2.1) 0.799 ms 0.626 ms 0.601 ms 2 1.196.221.203-static.velocitynet.com.au (203.221.196.1) 9.954 ms 11.056 ms 16.120 ms 3 border-transact.velocitynet.com.au (203.17.154.250) 9.022 ms 14.082 ms 12.071 ms 4 * * * etc. I've tried a number of other mirrors with the same result. Any clues here? Is it likely that my ISP blocking pings is affecting things? I've had freshclam working perfectly for a number of years - this only started at about the time I upgraded clamav to 0.88.4. _______________________________________________ http://lurker.clamav.net/list/clamav-users.html
