I'll try it again. It was definitely run as root as you can see by
where I exited out of the failed install.

The only thing I can think of is that I saw a message that scrolled
past while I was installing that said that my CPAN was out of date
and that I could update it while the install was running and it
wouldn't hurt anything so I did. I bet that message lied.
