Freshclam tries to run as user clamav, as you can see in /etc/freshclam.conf: # By default when started freshclam drops privileges and switches to the # "clamav" user. This directive allows you to change the database owner. # Default: clamav (may depend on installation options) #DatabaseOwner clamav This is the default and you have two options: 1. You can create the user (and group), which is what probably most people do. Follow the installation instructions. or 2.
