Yes, that seems to work OK.

Does freshclam now work? It might have been that you had a DNS timeout
before if that was your only attempt to connect.

Also, check whether you have nscd running, and stop it if it is running.
It's rather broken anyway and seems to interfere with DNS in some cases.
