This has a simple solution that doesn't ruin things for all: The ClamAV
vendor can offer a push of the AV patterns to paying customers with
special needs. That way you will receive the updates as quickly as do the
mirrors and the vendor recovers some of the cost of maintaining ClamAV. In
fact, those who run mirrors could even offer this as a fee-based service
which has the potential of interesting even more people in becoming mirror
sites. Nothing like a little old fashion free market force for spinning up
the wheels of industry.
