That doesn't mean that ClamAV can't strive to be "compiler-neutral"...  I
would guess that some shops do not allow or don't want to use "free
software"  compilers for various reasons.  We like to use the Sun Forte
compiler because a) we have it, b) it generally produces better code than
gcc for Sparc on Solaris, c)  it has dbx and other tools which are
superior to gdb/etc. on Solaris, d) we have contract support - if it
doesn't work correctly, we can get someone to fix it.
