If the only thing protecting your hordes of Windows users from the
wide world is a virus scanner, you might not want to rely on ClamAV at
this point. Some of the commercial scanners have more complete
databases and update them more frequently.

If you're running ClamAV in addition to a commercial scanner, or using
it to filter out junk e-mail messages, then its database is complete
enough, is updated regularly enough, and clamscan is reliable enough.
