I may be mistaken about what AVCHD is, but I have been able to edit h264
encoded video for years now with cinelerra.  It used to be that you
needed the herroin virtual version, but if I understand it right, you
can also now do it with the cv version.

My videos are almost always  1280x720 or 1900x1080, H.264/AVC with MPEG4 AAC 
audio
Is that not AVCHD?
